Clatworthy Fly Fishing Club

The Clatworthy Fly Fishing Club mission statement is ‘to promote fly fishing to people of all ages and abilities’ and is coupled with the ethos of having fun. We have an open, all-inclusive membership policy aimed at providing the wider community with the opportunity to get involved and enjoy the sport of fly fishing. Our members are from all walks of life, age and (fly fishing) ability, from the counties of Somerset, Devon, Dorset and further afield.

As part of their annual subscription club members are invited to attend a wide range of fun social events and friendly fly fishing competitions, at Clatworthy as well as other venues, not just during the fishing season but throughout the year.

We host fly tying masterclasses for those who would like to learn more about the art of fly tying. For those who are a novice fly fishers, and those who want to brush up on their techniques, we have casting tuition classes and workshops led by expert fly fishers.

We run a ‘buddy scheme’ where an experienced fly fisher partners a beginner for a couple of hours to help them get on the right track. This can help to improve casting, fly selection and fishing techniques or fly fishing from a boat and boat craft skills.

Not all our events and activities are fly fishing related. The ‘Clatworthy Cook Off’ is a much anticipated event involving live demonstrations on hot and cold smoking techniques and how to turn your catch into delicious fish curries, pate, and other tasty recipes. Trout will naturally feature on the menu but there’s also the usual meat treats from the BBQ.

Our online forum is available exclusively to club members and is a popular and growing resource for all things fly fishing. With 27 (at the last count!) forum categories covering a wide variety of topics there’s plenty of discussion threads to contribute to or browse. We have a classified ads section where you can buy, swap or sell pretty much any item as well as fishing tackle.

Clatworthy Fly Fishing ClubClatworthy Fly Fishing Club members also have the benefit of exclusive access to a private messaging service where you can get in touch with other members or create group chats. Useful if you want to arrange fishing trips, are looking for a fishing companion, need help with something or if you just want an alternative to other messaging services.

As a member of Clatworthy Fly Fishing Club (CFFC) you could help shape our programme of social and competitive events. Perhaps you might like to introduce fly fishing to others, or those who have not had the opportunity to try their hand at casting or making a fly. clatworthy fly fishing club
