CFFC is a friendly West Country fly fishing club whose home water is Clatworthy Reservoir located in West Somerset. We’re an open membership organisation and welcome both local and visiting anglers.
The club was first formed in the 1980s and ran for a good few years before it closed down in the late 90s. Reestablished in 2017 the club now attracts fly fishers from all walks of life with members coming from the the local counties of Devon & Somerset and also those further afield.
Trophies and shields from the old club remain at the fishing lodge and continue to be used as originally intended. They’re engraved with many names of past (& current) members.
The club mission statement is ‘To promote fly fishing to people of all ages and abilities’. Coupled with the ethos of having fun CFFC members enjoy a series of social and competitive events based mainly at the fishing lodge on the reservoir. Club ‘away days’ are where members visit other venues to fly fish and occasionally to join in other club or association’s social meetings.
The club is keen to engage with those who have yet to try fly fishing, and those who are less able to do so. A series of open days are held throughout the year where fly fishing techniques and casting clinics help newcomers to the sport get to grips with the fundamental elements of fly fishing.
Membership to CFFC is by annual subscription. The subscription model is very simple and caters for all age and ability demographic. A small fee helps towards the club’s running costs and enables the social events to take place throughout the year.
CFFC fly fishing club competitions are held in the ‘fun spirit’ of things so as not to be exclusive to the less competitive of the club’s fly fishers. For those a bit more serious matches against other clubs also feature in the yearly event schedule. There’s usually some sort of prize or two at the end of the day….
A core group of the members help run the club on a voluntary basis (more needed!). Each hold key positions which are essential for the smooth running and success of the club.
